“Free market economy has failed the former Soviet states” public debates took place in Ivana Franka theatre in Kyiv

On June 15, 2010 members of the Supervisory and Central Councils of the “Civil Rights’ Movement of Oleg Riabokon” participated in the public debate “Free market economy has failed the former Soviet states”. For the motion argued economist, former Russian Presidential candidate Irina Khakamada and British journalist, broadcaster David Aaronovitch. Against the motion argued Chairman of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation, wife of the Third President of Ukraine Victor Kateryna Yushchenko and member of the Parliament of Ukraine, journalist Andriy Shevchenko.
During the debates the panelists have agreed that none of the former Soviet states have been able to build a classical capitalist economic system. That is why so many people are now dissatisfied. However, transformations in both economy and society awareness are inevitable.
The public debates will be broadcast on July 4, 2010 by BBC World News in 225 countries for an estimated audience of 76 million people.
